]]> Upper Chichester, PA – Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) celebrates National Community Action Month during the month of May.  CAADC is proud to join over 1,000 Community Action Agencies nationwide celebrating their efforts helping low-income people move toward self-sufficiency and economic stability.  National Community Action Month highlights Community Action Agencies’ work helping millions of families and individuals escape poverty and achieve economic stability each year.  Community Action Agencies have been supporting their local communities for over 60 years changing people’s lives, embodying the spirit of hope, improving communities and making America a better place to live.

CAADC CEO Edward T. Coleman stated “It is our honor to serve the residents of Delaware County especially helping our most vulnerable residents including families, the homeless, senior citizens, youth and Veterans.”

CAADC, a non-profit corporation, provides a wide range of services aimed at encouraging self-sufficiency for economically disadvantaged residents and helping families facing an economic crisis.  Last year CAADC locally helped over 8,000 residents with assistance while nationally Community Action Agencies helped over 15 million Americans.  CAADC’s website is www.caadc.org and residents can call (610) 874-8451 for assistance.

]]> Upper Chichester, PA —– Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC) is once again operating free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites now for its 19th year.  CAADC will be serving low- and moderate-income families in Delaware County.  All services will be done by IRS trained and certified community volunteers and will aim to serve families who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.  Last year, CAADC helped over 1,000 households.  CAADC is providing assistance now until mid-April.  Assistance is being provided by appointment only!  Times and days vary by location.  To schedule services please first call (610) 833-4443.  Tax preparation sites are located in Boothwyn, Darby, and Chester.  If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail wfoth@caadc.org.

]]> Upper Chichester – October 30th is National Weatherization Day.  The Weatherization Assistance Program was signed into law 48 years ago by President Gerald Ford.  Since then the Weatherization Assistance Program has been an incredibly successful federal, state and local partnership that serves every county in the U.S. and five U.S. territories.

Weatherization provides a cost-effective permanent solution for reducing the heavy energy burden on low-income Americans.  According to the U.S. Department of Energy, these families pay 14% or more of their annual incomes for energy compared to 3% for others.  However, Weatherization can help low-income families save an average of $283 per year in energy costs.  The Weatherization Assistance Program serves single family, multifamily and manufactured housing.  Every dollar invested in the program returns $4.50 to society in energy, health and safety benefits.

The Weatherization Assistance Program in Delaware County is administered by the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Inc. (CAADC).  The program provides quality energy education and home conservation modifications.  CAADC also provides Weatherization services in Lebanon, Chester, Montgomery and Lancaster Counties.  All services are free of charge.

Edward T. Coleman, Chief Executive Officer of CAADC, urged, “This program can make a real tangible difference immediately to those already on a strained budget and continue to help them in the future.  This is an excellent time to call and get fast service before winter arrives and the program gets very busy.”

Funding for this program is provided by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development.  Income guidelines do apply.  To apply for the Weatherization Program or for additional information, residents can contact CAADC at (610) 521-8770.
