A 26-year old resident was reunited with her 6 year-old daughter after being separated for almost a year thanks to CAADC’s services.  She became separated from her daughter when she became homeless after a household breakup.  She was also pregnant at the time.  She was able to stay temporarily with a family member but that was too crowded and she had to leave.  They did allow the daughter to stay.  Over the next few months she stayed at a shelter for pregnant women and eventually had her baby.

She came to CAADC’s Coordinated Entry program for assistance with housing.  She was referred and accepted into CAADC’s Rapid Re-Housing Program after being on the waiting list for a few more months.  She had just gone back to work after maternity leave and was eager to find housing and to bring her family back together again.  After several weeks of searching for housing she was not successful in identifying a new home suitable for her family’s needs.  CAADC’s Housing Locator was able to find an available unit that she liked and was in an area near her family.  She received furniture from CAADC’s Donations Warehouse.  Finally her daughter was reunited with her in her new home.

A single male father and his three children moved into the Wesley House after losing his housing when he became unemployed.  In addition to not having a job, he also had no secure child care options and was dealing with the emotional loss of his wife.  Once his goals were set, he regularly met with his Case Manager.  During this time, his Case Manager was able to communicate ways to overcome his emotional barriers.  His Case Manager helped him enroll in an intensive outpatient program through Community Hospital to help him deal with his mental and emotional issues.  CAADC also helped him through the process of securing childcare for his youngest son.  He also enrolled in a Work Ready program to enhance his skills for employment.  With this hard work and commitment to his children, client was accepted into a Transitional Housing Program and moved out of the shelter.  He is on his way to self-sufficiency.

A 78 year old male Veteran was found roaming the streets of the Marcus Hook community.  The Veteran became homeless when the friend he was staying with moved away and he had no other supports.  He was receiving Veteran Administration (VA) benefits and had the ability to pay his own rent but refused to leave the area.

He was enrolled in the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program.  After several months of intensive case management, it was documented by the doctors at the VA Hospital in Coatsville that the Veteran was incapable of living on his own without support.  A subsidized supportive housing unit was located for the Veteran.  He was also linked with the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) to provide him with support.  CAADC helped him furnish his unit through our Donations Warehouse.

A married couple with four children (13 year old son, 6 year old daughter, 3 year old son with special needs and a 1 year old daughter) became homeless when the husband lost his job.  They were not able to maintain their mortgage payments and the house went into the foreclosure process.  The family was sustaining itself based on Public Assistance and Food Stamps.  As the time approached for the family to be out of the house they turned to CAADC for assistance.  The family was approved for the Rapid Re-Housing Program and found a 3 bedroom house in the same school district.  The husband was able to find a full-time job quickly at a service station and with initial rental subsidies were able to stabilize their situation.  He stated “I was really lost as to how I was going to support my wife and 4 children because we had lost all hope until we came into CAADC.  I am forever thankful for your support for myself and my family.”

A single teen was living in the Independent Living Program through Children and Youth Services after a long history of placements since the age of 14.  He was not able to live at home due to his struggle with behavioral and mental health issues.  He enrolled in CAADC’s Building Trades Training Program at the age of 19.  During his application interview, he shared that he had anger that he was unable to control.  However, he was getting treatment to help him learn coping skills to better manage his anger.  He was about to phase out of the Independent Living Program though and was in need of training and a living wage job to support himself.

While in the Building Trades Training Program, he earned his OSHA and Lead Renovators Certifications.  He also completed introductory courses in electrical maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and fork lifting.  He received work-based learning experiences with CAADC’s maintenance, construction and weatherization departments.  He also completed financial literacy instruction, life skills training and job readiness workshops through the program.  The Program Manager also provided case management services to assist him with remediating his barriers to self-sufficiency.

He graduated from the program and secured full-time employment as a Maintenance Technician at a local apartment complex.  He is earning a living wage and purchased his own car.
